ESCAP ES

Dear Colleagues,

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Global Human Resources Conference.

ESCAP promotes cooperation among member States, representing over half the global population, in pursuit of common solutions to speed up progress towards the 2023 sustainable development agenda.

At ESCAP, we firmly believe that investing in our most valuable asset - our people - is essential to achieve sustainable development and inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

We recognize that our people strategy must be flexible and adaptable to adequately address the rapidly evolving challenges of the present and the future.

The complexity of today’s global challenges demands streamlined, efficient and impactful human resources solutions developed and delivered with a client-centric approach to ensure that our skills and ability to deliver keep up with rapid change.

Our efforts at ESCAP in human resources are framed around the three major outcomes of the People Strategy: Diversity, Agility and Accountability.

Over the past year, ESCAP has remained steadfast in its dedication to gender parity. Through concerted efforts and rigorous implementation of inclusive policies, ESCAP successfully achieved gender parity at the P-2 to P-5 levels.

By proactively leveraging the agile work methodologies of NewWork and Innovation in our core HR activities, we strive to foster an environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, psychological safety, and personal and professional development.

I have made it my personal commitment to support and encourage a civil work environment for all personnel. We strive to foster a work environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, psychological safety, and personal and professional development.

On many occasions, we have formed partnerships with colleagues across the world to exchange and connect on innovative HR solutions that put people at the core. We are eager to continue doing so – together with you all.

The ESCAP team continually seeks innovative ways to enact our people strategy and improve service delivery. The team has successfully implemented automation across various areas of work, reducing manual workloads.

These initiatives have enabled the team to refocus their efforts on more impactful and strategic initiatives.

I hope your time in Bangkok and with us at ESCAP will inspire your vision for the Future of Human Resources within the UN Secretariat.

I wish you all a successful week and look forward to welcoming you to a light reception at our newly inaugurated Sustainability and Innovation Centre. Developed with young local artists, it is testimony of our commitment to integrating the  Sustainable Development Goals in our working environment and preparing the next generation to tackle the challenges ahead.

Thank you very much.
