Public transport has a vital role to play in creating sustainable and inclusive mobility networks with, for example, lower emissions per passenger-km and higher passenger capacity per unit surface area. The issue of first and last mile (FLM) access to public transport, namely the ease with which public transport users can complete door-to-door journeys, emerges as significant gap for achieving sustainable mobility for all in Asia and the Pacific. Relevant actors are increasingly recognizing the need to examine regional context-specific questions of first and last mile access to public transport, and what policies and measures can support sustainable and inclusive urban transport planning and development.

Against this background, ESCAP Transport Division is organizing the Expert Group Meeting with the objective of identifying key research and policy questions that would help further advance the efforts of the region towards low carbon, accessible, inclusive and sustainable urban transport. It will serve as a dynamic platform for regional dialogue among policymakers, urban planners, industry experts, and community representatives to explore first and last mile policies and measures that address the pressing need for accessible and user-focused public transport services.

Participation at the meeting is by invitation only. For more information regarding the meeting, please contact: Ms. Ariadne Abel, Transport Division, e-mail: [email protected] with a copy to Ms. Wanna Kunsabfueng, Transport Division, e-mail: [email protected]
