Background:
The increasing frequency and intensity of flood events worldwide necessitate innovative and effective tools for flood risk management and response. In light of this, ESCAP and the United Nations University, Institute for Water, Environment and Health, has developed a suite of online tools designed to enhance our ability to map and analyze flood hotspots. These tools leverage satellite imagery, artificial intelligence models, and geospatial data analysis to provide near-real-time assessments of flood-affected areas, even in challenging weather conditions, Time series analysis of flood extents and flood risk mapping. The webinar aims to introduce these innovative tools to a regional stakeholder, fostering a comprehensive understanding of their capabilities and applications in flood risk management.
Objectives:
- To provide a thorough introduction to the newly developed online tools for flood hotspot mapping and analysis, time series flood explorer and flood risk mapping.
- To demonstrate the practical applications of these tools in flood monitoring and risk management, using real-world examples and case studies.
- To enhance participants' skills in utilising satellite imagery and geospatial data for flood analysis.
- To introduce the online course on "Introduction to Geospatial Data Analysis with ChatGPT and Google Earth Engine," encouraging further learning and capacity building in this critical area.
